ABSTRACT:

During survey of plant parasitic nematodes, the samples which were gathered from the studies on methyl bromide alternatives in the green house of the Eastern Mediterranean region, moderate to severe root-knot infection was observed on the roots of Phyla nodiflora and Lactuca sp., from outside and nearby green house of Plant Protection Research Institute, Adana. Roots were examined under stereomicroscope for the presence of egg-masses of root-knot nematodes. On the basis of perineal pattern of the mature females (Eisenback & Triantaphyllou, 1991; Jepson, 1987; Southey, 1986) Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid & White) Chitwood was identified on Phyla nodiflora and Lactuca sp., which appeared to be new hosts of the root-knot nematode in Turkey not reported before (Okten et al., 2000; Erdal et al., 2001; Kepenekci & Evlice, 2004).
