ABSTRACT:
During 2004-2005, an extensive survey was conducted to study the current status of the occurrence of cyst nematodes in Pakistan. Of the 1723 samples of 36 plant species collected from 97 different localities, 672 (39 %) seemed to be infected by yst nematode. Five different cyst species viz., Heterodera avenae, H. mothi, H. zeae, Globodera rostochiensis and G. pallida were found associated with 1, 4, 27, 3 and 1 plant species, respectively. H. avenae was found only from wheat field of Mirpurkhas. H. mothi has been traced from 10 different localities across Pakistan. H. zeae was detected from 75 localities out of 97 throughout the country and the most infected crops were maize, wheat and sugarcane.
