ABSTRACT:

The mangrove area along the periphery of Karachi harbor (Backwater of Sandspit) is inhabited by a variety of free-living marine nematode fauna. The mangrove environment represents one of the most intensively studied tropical marine ecosystems. It has a great ecological importance and is found along the coastal areas that are accessible to tidal water. They play an important role in building island and protecting the coast from extensive erosions . Managrove constitutes a
heterogeneous group of halophytic trees, shrubs and other plants colonizing tidal shores and brackish waters in the tropics and subtropics. The mangrove vegetation, as unique plant communities specially adapted to a particular environment, naturally sustains in muddy swamps in the intertidal areas on sheltered sea coasts, estuary- shore, including river deltas and bays of islands.
