ABSTRACT:

During the year 2009, survey of Madina Farm House Gadap of Karachi was conducted for plant parasitic nematodes. Roots were examined for rootknot nematode. Two cultivated ornamental plants butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea L.) family Fabaceae and motia (Jasminum sambac (L.) Aiton family Oleaceae were found with infestation of root-knot nematodes. Under the Stereomicroscope egg-masses and mature females were obtained from the galls of the roots. Perineal pattern (Eisenback et al., 1981) were prepared and identified Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid & White,1910) Chitwood, 1949 and M. javanica (Treub,1885) Chitwood,1949. Mix population of M. incognita and M. javanica were found on both the hosts. M. javanica pattern resembles in having a low dorsal arch and distinct lateral incisures while M. incognita in having a distinct dorsal arch composed of smooth to wavy lines and no lateral incisures. These hosts are new records of M. incognita and M. javanica not hither to reported in Pakistan. More than hundred host plants earlier have been reported for M. incognita and M. javanica(Shahina et al., 2009; Maqbool & Shahina, 2001; Anwar et al., 2009).
