ABSTRACT:
A survey was conducted of medicinal plants, cultivated at agricultural field of Hamdard University, Karachi for the detection of plant parasitic especially root-knot nematodes. Some of them were found heavily infested with Meloidogyne root-knot nematodes. The root-knot species attacking the Aloe vera plants reported here in was identified as Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid & White, 1919) Chitwood, 1949 along with other nematodes. Other medicinal plants viz., Pongamia glabra were found infested with M. arenaria (Neal, 1889) Chitwood, 1949 while Bauhinia purpurea, Ricinus communis and Terminalia catappa were heavily infested with M. javanica (Treub, 1885) Chitwood, 1949. These medicinal plants are reported as new host records of plant parasitic and root-knot species for the first time from Pakistan.
